Advent
Advent, advent, one candle burns...
Advent is one of the most beautiful festivals of the year and begins the preparation time before Christmas. It is a festival of beauty and light and includes a ceremony suggested by Rudolf Steiner, in which each child quietly walks around a big spiral of roses and greenery to light a candle at its centre. During this time of year, our lives can become hectic, full of shopping and stresses, engagements and expectations. It can be difficult to hold the image of a calm, collected and contented Christmas in our minds. But this is the time we live in, and most importantly, it is the time that our children have chosen to live in. Creating an opportunity for peace and presence amidst the madness helps our children to hold that image of peace as true, good, and right in their worlds. The feeling of being at peace is one of the most precious gifts we, as teachers, parents, and caregivers, can give our children.
